Abtin Alvand is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (Oxford) and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford. He completed orthopaedic training on the Oxford rotation and completed a PhD (DPhil) at the University of Oxford titled “Improving Surgical Learning and Performance at Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty”. Abtin was appointed NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford in 2015, and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in 2017. He undertook two post-CCT sub-specialist clinical fellowships focusing on complex hip and knee surgery in Oxford and Stanmore (Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital).
He also completed a Fellowship focusing on peri-prosthetic joint infection (PJI) at the Rothman Institute (Philadelphia, USA). Abtin was appointed in Oxford as a Consultant Knee Surgeon in 2018. His clinical and research interests focus on PJI, revision knee arthroplasty and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. He was an invited member of the 2018 International Consensus Meeting (ICM) on Musculoskeletal Infection and is a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) Revision Knee Surgery and the UK PJI Working Groups.
